Basic Bible Prophecy - 101

This is designed to provide a basic skeletal work to give you a foundation to build on.  2 Timothy 2:15 says "study to yourself approved"...  and Acts 17:11 says "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.  So don't just take it for face value when anyone gives their interpretation of the scripture.  Search the scriptures to see if those things are true to the Bible.  Compare scripture to scripture. Every scripture has a back up, meaning that there is another scripture that will support it.  Some people take one verse from the Bible and build a doctrine around it and that is not what we intend to do here.  As an explanation, for instance, the Book of Daniel is the key that unlocks the Book of Revelation.  The Book of Revelation is the key that unlocks the Book of Daniel.  And there are key Bible Chapters that further support the prophecies in both the Books of Daniel and Revelation, such as Matthew Chapter 24, 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2 and Luke Chapter 11. Bible Prophecy is further supported by the Major and Minor prophets in the Bible.  You'll see, as you read through these writings, numerous references that not only support each other, but that begin to give us a clearer understanding of what the future holds.  The more you search, the more the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal the Scripture to you personally.  "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you." - 1 John 2:27;  "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things." -  John 14:26.  You study to show yourself approved and the Holy Spirit will teach you.

Left Behind?

One of the Devil’s cleverest tricks has been to deceive Christians into thinking that Jesus is going to rescue them out of this world before the three-and-a-half year Great Tribulation, because those who believe that, are going to be totally unprepared for the Tribulation, and it will shake the faith of some. A lot of Christians who are expecting to get “Raptured”, (gathered into Heaven at Jesus’ Second Coming) before the Tribulation are going to get the shock of their lives because that’s not going to happen.  Jesus said so Himself: ” Immediately after the Tribulation of those days…they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:28-29.  “And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matthew 24:31

After the Tribulation shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in the heavens. After the Tribulation, then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn. After the Tribulation they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. After the Tribulation He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet and they shall gather His elect. That’s when Jesus is going to come for you and me-after the Tribulation, and not a day before!

Why is Jesus going to return? To gather His “elect”, the “eklektos” in Greek, the chosen ones, the saved. Christians will have been preaching the Gospel and  winning multitudes to the Lord in this time of Tribulation. Why would He pull His laborers out before those few years when people will be the most desperate for salvation, and there will be one of the greatest harvest of souls ever, when we’ll be “doing exploits and instructing many?” (Matthew 9:37-38 & Daniel 11:32-33) And if we’re going to be doing exploits and instructing many during the Tribulation, we must still be here. He is going to need lots of us here to tell the world what is happening.

But if God loves saved Christians so much, some people reason, why would He let the go through the Tribulation? – To put them to the test. He’s going to test their faith to see if they really believe. Will they be witnesses for Him, or will they be ashamed of Him and try to save their lives by not witnessing? He’s going to purge them and refine them and refine them as by fire, His Word says, to make them white. Daniel 11:35

I’m sorry if you’re disappointed to hear that. I’m sorry if you thought you had it made being a Christian thinking He’d come and rescue you before anything terrible happened. Well, He’s not going to! The Tribulation is going to put us through the refining fire, but those who have real faith are going to come through like pure gold.

We know the Tribulation is going to be difficult, or it wouldn’t be called the Tribulation. But still, we shouldn’t look ahead to it with trepidation, expecting horrible defeat with nothing but persecution and suffering. It’s going to be primarily a time of great victory over the forces of Satan and tremendous triumph over the anti-Christ wicked. It’s going to be a time of terrible and awesome powers to protect us and defend us and deliver us and keep us going right to the end. (Daniel 11:32, Revelation 12:7-11; 17:14). We don’t need to worry or fear, because God is going to take care of His own. Revelation 3:10; 7:1-3; 112:6

Another false teaching about the Rapture is that it’s only for the “best” Christians. This is a terrible thing to teach anyone, that even if they love Jesus and are saved, if they’re not good enough, or they didn’t go to church enough, or if they commit another sin, they’re not going to be ready for Jesus when He comes, and they’re going to miss the Rapture! The preachers said, “They may be saved, but they’ll be left behind in that terrible Tribulation, because in the Rapture Jesus is only going to take the good people.

“Well, let me tell you, nobody is ever good enough! Nobody can ever love Him enough. Nobody can ever be perfect enough, clean enough, pure enough, or holy enough except by the blood of Jesus Christ, and that’s done the instant you receive Jesus as your personal Savior. So you don’t have to worry about whether or not you’re good enough. If you belong to Jesus, He is going to take you to be with Him when He comes, no matter what.

Nobody who has received Jesus is going to be left behind. Jesus promised to send His angels out to gather us from everywhere, from the four winds, from all around the world, and He won’t leave one behind! He won’t forget one-not one! Matthew 24:31. Isn’t that wonderful!

Let’s not “practice with thumbscrews” though. Let’s just get out there and win souls like there’s no tomorrow because we are not guaranteed tomorrow. We have all been commissioned to win the lost. You take care of God’s business and He will take care of yours. Remember, His grace is sufficient. Don’t let anyone be left behind during the our-pouring of God’s Wrath, which comes after the Tribulation, because you failed to tell them.

2 Thessalonians Chapter 2

V1- The subject of discussion is “The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”, Matthew 24:30, Mark13: 26, 1Thessalonians 4:15-16.
“And our GATHERING TOGETHER unto Him.” Matthew 24:31.
GATHER TOGETHER His elect, Matthew13:27,
GATHER TOGETHER in one all things in Christ, Ephesians 1:10
CAUGHT UP TOGETHER to meet the Lord, 1Thessalonians 4:17
It is very important that we understand that this verse is referring to the COMING of Jesus, Matthew 24:30, that happens IMMEDIATELY AFTER the Tribulation, Matthew 24:29, when He GATHERS TOGETHER His saints, Matthew 24:31, to take them off to their rewards, Revelations 11:18, at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Revelations 19:8-9.

V2- whether you hear something from a spirit, or somebody’s words, or even a letter from Paul, (Galatians 1:8). Don’t get all shook up and start thinking that the “DAY OF CHRIST” is today.

V3-A warning not to be deceived by man, (Matthew 24:5,11, 24) (2Timothy 3:13). Bible schools and pre-tribulation rapturists. For THAT DAY (verse1) shall not happen until two events happen FIRST:
(1) “A falling away” (apostasy or rejection and despising of the Truth), Isaiah 24:2-6, 29:10-17, Ezekiel 7:25-27, Amos 8:11-14, Micah 3:5-7, 2Timothy 3:1-5, 4:3-4.
(2) “And that Man of Sin”, (son of perdition, anti-Christ) be revealed.” The phrase, “son of perdition” comes from the Greek word “DIABLO”, which means SATAN himself and not just one of his demons. This means the “ANTI-CHRIST” will be the incarnation of Satan and his power in a man, (Daniel 8:24, Revelations 13:2,4), just like Jesus was the incarnation of God in a man (1Timothy 3:16).

V4-This verse tells us what the anti-Christ is going to do when he is revealed, (verse 3), to the world. Daniel 11:36-37, 8:11, Revelations 13:6. This verse shows that there has to be a TEMPLE. His actions in the temple are described in Daniel 8:11, “sanctuary was cast down.” Daniel 11:31, “pollute the sanctuary”. “Blaspheme His name and His tabernacle” (Revelation 13:6). Notice the fact that the anti-Christ “SITS” in the temple. In Matthew 24:15, the “Abomination” “STANDS’ in the “Holy Place”, (temple-Acts 6:13, 21:28). From this we understand that the Anti-Christ and the abomination are two different things. But they will both be in the temple. Since the anti-Christ is given the power of Satan for 3½ years, (Revelations 13:2,5), we assume that he sets himself in the temple at the same time that the sacrifice is taken away and the abomination is placed by his people, (Daniel 11:31) which is the midst of the last 7 years, (Daniel 9:27, 11:31) or 3½ years. This may be part of Satan’s attempt to counterfeit the Messiah predicted in the Old Testament scriptures. Malachi 3:1, Like coming out of Egypt, Hosea 11:1. (See the explanation in Daniel 11 for more scripture on the temple.)

V5-Paul tells them to remember the times he exhorted them in the past. Consider 1Thessalonians 2:14-3:7, 4:13-18, 5:1-4, where he told them about the 2nd coming, I Thessalonians 4:16, destruction, 5:3, persecution, 2:15, tribulation, 3:4, the power of Satan, 2:18, 3:5, and how Satan can persecute us to a certain limit, 3:1,5, at which time God steps in and comforts us, 3:6-7, (2Corinthians 7:6). This of course shows that God is in control of the Devil. Job 1:7-12, 1Corinthians 10:13.

V6-Now with these thoughts established in their minds, Paul tells them: “And now ye know what withholdeth”, (God’s spirit holds back the Devil).
That he”, Satan-the son of perdition “Anti-Christ.”
Might be revealed” Notice the word “revealed” in verse 3 & 8. Revealed to world as in verse 4.
In his time”. “.”For at the time appointed end shall be.” Daniel 8:19, 11:27, 11:29. So now we know that God is holding back the power of the Devil until the time appointed, which is the LAST 42 MONTHS, Revelation 13:5.

V7-“For the mystery, (Revelation 17:5), of iniquity doth already work”. The power of Satan has been working in the world since Eden. Genesis 3, 1Chronicles 21:1, Luke 22:3, Acts 26:18, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Ephesians 2:2, Colossians 1:12, 1Thessalonians 2:18, 1Peter 5:8, 1John2:18, but God is and has been controlling it, Job 1:7-12, John 19:11.
Only he”, God or the Holy Spirit.
Who now letteth”, Let means to hinder or hold down, Romans 1:13 or the Greek concordance.
“Will let”, God will hold down or control Satan’s power.
Until he be taken out of the way”, until the Holy Spirit is taken out of the way of Satan’s path “and power was given unto him to continue 42 months”, 3½ years, (Revelation 13:5). Psalm 76:10 Tells us how God “lets “ or restrains man’s wrath.

V8-“And then”, when the Holy Spirit stops holding back the Devil…
Shall that wicked be revealed”. The beginning of Satan’s 42-month rampage, which starts with taking over the temple (Verse 4) and placing the Abomination, (Daniel 11:31) in the temple, (Matthew 24:15).
Whom”, the anti-Christ.
The Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth”, Psalm 18:8,13, Isaiah 46:6, Isaiah 30:27-28, Hosea 6:5, Joel 3:16, Amos 1:2, Zechariah 14:12, Ephesians 6:17, Revelation 19:15,21.
And shall destroy with the brightness of His coming” The destruction of anti-Christ at Armageddon, Psalm 18:12, Isaiah 17:12-14, 29:5-6, 66:15-16, Ezekiel 38:18-23, 39:6, Nahum 1:5-6, Habakkuk 3:4-6, Zephaniah 1:18, Zechariah 14:1-5,12, 2Thessalonians 1:7-8, Revelation 6:16, 16:17, 19:21. Although this chapter deals with the coming of the Lord To Gather His Saints, Matthew 24:29-31, this verse which talks of the destruction of the anti-Christ, brings into view the coming of Jesus when He returns with His Saints, (75 days after the rapture, Daniel 12:12), to destroy the anti-Christ at Armageddon, Zechariah 14:1-5, Revelation 19:19-21.

V9-“Even him” Jesus
Whose coming is after.” Matthew 24:29-31, Daniel 7:21-22.
The working of Satan.” Daniel 7:21-22, 8:24, 12:7, Revelation 13:5-7.
With all power and signs and lying wonders.” Daniel 11:38-39, Matthew 24:24, Revelation 13:5-7. The Greek work “kata” used for “After” is used 72 times in the New Testament. Beside this verse it is used 6 times to denote TIME, (as explained above), and 65 times to mean “Like or according to” which would make this verse as follows:
Even him”, Anti-Christ.
Whose coming is after”, His appearance will be according to or like, Revelation 13:2, Daniel 8:24.
The working of Satan”, Daniel 7:21. 8:24.
with all power and signs and lying wonders”, Revelation 13.
In this case “Even him” would be referring back to: “And then shall that wicked be revealed”, in Verse 8. Both of these interpretations are valid. The former goes with the time element in verse 3.
The latter goes with the person of the Anti-Christ in verse 3,(DIABLO).

V10-“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish”, All unrighteousness is sin. 1John 5:17, and deceives us, Romans 7:11, and hardens our heart, Hebrews 3:13, that we cannot deliver our soul, Isaiah 44:20, and it slays us, Romans 6:6, 7:11.
because they received not the love of the truth”, The truth is Jesus, John 14:6, His Word, John 17:17, and God gives us the love for Jesus, 2Thessalonians 3:5. But, most people love darkness, John 3:19, rather than light, Jesus, John 1:9.
That they might be saved”, Saved through Jesus, John 3:17, the only way, John 14:6. In other words, people perish in their own sin because they reject the only thing that can save them-The Truth, JESUS.

V11-And for this cause”, because they received not the love of the truth, verse 10.
God shall send them strong delusion, (verse 9), that they should believe a lie”, Isaiah 45:7, 63:3-4, Romans 1:28. THE DECEIVED AND THE DECEIVER are His. Job 12:16. If you don’t want the truth, (Jesus), what else is left but lies? Because when it comes to Jesus, there is only one shade of (white as in lies). 1John 1:5. All the rest is a lie, even 1% gray. Numbers 14:24, 32:11. There are no neutrals

V12-“That they all might be Damned”. Final Judgment, (WHITE THRONE).
Who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness (sin)”. This is talking about the willing rejection of truth to go after sin. John 3:19 (the word condemnation in that verse also means “Judgment”. Jesus said, “They that reject my Word” (truth) will be judged by the same in the last day”. (WHITE THRONE) JOHN 12:48. Paul said to those that rejected the truth: “you have judged yourselves unworthy of everlasting life”. Acts 13:46. God doesn’t send people. They put themselves there. They are “condemned (judged) of themselves” Titus 3:11, “The show of their countenance doth witness against them.” Isaiah 3:9, “They have refused to return”, Jeremiah 5:3. God said to Israel, “You have destroyed yourself,” Hosea 13:9. Once you reject the truth, God himself will send the lie, 1Kings 22:22, that you may be judged for it, BY the WORD you REJECTED. John 12:48.
